This Black Forest road trip is built around the drive itself: winding forest roads, short village stops and lake views before crossing into Switzerland. It works particularly well as a short road trip from the Netherlands, with Baden-Baden, Freiburg and the southern Black Forest leading naturally towards Lausanne and Basel. The road is the main event, not the sightseeing list.

Baden-Baden to Freiburg

The road is the main event today: forest curves, viewpoints and small towns rather than a long sightseeing list. Do not automatically choose the fastest route to Freiburg — this is one of those days where the slower Black Forest roads are the reason for the trip.

Getting there: Drive from the Netherlands towards Baden-Baden, then continue through the Black Forest towards Freiburg
